Map for Little Bedwyn and Burridge Heath walk

Directions

  1. From Great Bedwyn wharf (Grid Ref SU 280 644) and facing the canal, turn right along the towpath and go under the bridge. Continue along the towpath for 2 km. As you arrive in Little Bedwyn, you go under a metal road bridge and pass a lock. You then leave the towpath, to the right, just before a tall concrete footbridge that goes over the railway.

  2. Walk between buildings to reach a road junction. Your route is straight ahead, so cross the road (with care on this blind bend) and continue ahead along the road (High Street), signed to Bagshot. After about 200 metres, take the footpath on the left through a kissing gate, and cross the field diagonally, going through two kissing gates. In the far corner, go through yet another kissing gate, cross the grassy track, and go through the metal pedestrian gate. Cross the field diagonally half right, go over a training track for horses and arrive at a kissing gate and a road. Turn right on the road.

  3. Walk along this road for 850 metres as it climbs gently then, as it bends right, turn left onto a bridle-way signed to Burridge Heath. (This is marked as a private road but is a public bridleway.) After 300 metres, ignore a track straight ahead, stay on the tarmac and continue for about 1 km. Where the road bends left, take the bridleway which bends round to the right. Continue until you arrive at a road.

  4. This is Jockey Green. Turn to the right, before the road, and walk across the green through the trees and crossing driveways. Head along the wide bridleway which is Galley Lane. At the junction (with Frog Lane), turn left and continue to the road. Cross the road, with care, back to the Wharf car park.
