Group Walk: Thursday 15th May, Bedwyn and Wilton Brails

Thursday 15th May, 3.75 miles

Crofton beam engine tower and building

Date: : Thursday 15th May

Time: 10.00 am – 12.00 pm

Location: Meet at Bedwyn Wharf, Brook St, SN8 3PB

A relaxing walk of just under 4 miles through the peace of the Brails, mostly on good tracks with just a couple to hills to climb. The bluebells are flowering early this year because of the warm dry spring so they may be past their best by the time of this walk but we should see lots of other signs of summer in the woods.

After leaving the wharf and a short walk by the canal, we’ll reach Bedwyn Brail from Brail Farm, to Castle Copse. Our route will go through Bedwyn Brail on the central track to the viewpoint, where we’ll stop briefly for a break before doubling back on the byway to cross the road into Wilton Brail. After a short walk up and over the hill on the track we’ll leave Wilton Brail to walk alongside the woodland back to Brail Farm and our return to the wharf.

All are welcome. Meet at the start and bring a drink or snack for a short refreshment stop. No stiles, a couple of moderate ascents. Dogs on leads please, sheep in the vicinity & ground nesting birds.
