Hatchet Lane, Stock Common, Chisbury Wood.

Date: Sunday 23rd Aug Time: 10.00 am – 12.00 pm Location: The Chains, opposite The Londis, High St, Great Bedwyn, SN8 3NU.
The group walk began at the village centre with an assembled group of 14 walkers. We headed off in bright sunshine along the pavement to the end of Church St, where we entered the bridleway, Hatchet Lane.
The last time we planned a walk along Hatchet Lane in February it had to be re-routed because of flooding. The track looked very different in August after the 5 declared heatwaves this year since May. Fortunately, weather conditions were a little cooler for this walk. The path’s surface had been cleared to its full width by the council, made possible by clearance of overhanging vegetation undertaken by Bedwyn Footpaths volunteers, working alongside the area’s countryside access officer earlier this year.
The walk continued through the shade of Stock Common. We had permission to walk the private driveway to Bewley Farm so we were able to complete our circular walk and return to Bedwyn through Chisbury Wood, from where we headed downhill back to the village.
A visit to the recently reopened café in the play park, Bedwyn Baristas, was the perfect end to this lovely walk.
