Thursday 16th July 2026. 3 miles

Date: Thursday 16th July Time: 10.30 am – 12.00 pm Location: The Plough, Shalbourne, SN8 3QF.
A friendly group of 17 walkers assembled outside the pub in the sunshine for this walk, including some new members, some relatives and friends that we hadn’t seen for a while.
This circular walk goes through Shalbourne village and meadows. We had to push our way through very long grass in one field and thistles in another but then we crossed the road to walk uphill on better tracks through woodland by Shalbourne Heath Plantation.
The temperature continued to rise in the strong sunshine but fortunately from Newtown grain store the walk turned downhill to the Plough for a welcome drink and lunch. https://www.theploughshalbourne.com/
We avoided the section of the walk alongside the stream (as shown on the map) because it was overgown and instead we continued straight over the wide bridge and up the track to the pavement beside the road and along from there to the pub.
The route crosses the A338, twice. Extreme care is needed to cross this fast road.
There is customer parking behind the pub and limited roadside parking in Shalbourne.
Tick protection recommended in the summer months.
