Thursday 21st May 2026. 3.25 miles

Crofton beam engine tower and building

Date: Thursday 21st May Time: 10.00 am – 11.45 am Location: Great Bedwyn Wharf, Brook St, SN8 3LZ

This walk followed the route of our published walk no 7 with a few small differences. We walked a little further into the Brails as far as the cross paths at Castle Copse. On the return we took the enclosed path that skirts the cricket pitch.

You can find a copy of the walk details and a map on the website here: www.bedwynfootpathsgroup.org.uk/walk-7-birch-copse-bedwyn-brail

The walk goes through the area of the Brail where orchids frequently flower in June. Unfortunately, unlike a lot of plants, they were not blooming early enough to see them on our May walk, although they have been seen in flower there in the weeks since the group walk.

8 came along on this walk including 2 new members from Wilton.

Ticks are active in the area. Check here for how to protect yourself and what to do if bitten:

No stiles, one steep ascent at start, some steady inclines. Dogs on leads
