Group Walk Chisbury & the chapel Thursday 19th Sept

Chisbury & the chapel, 4.5 miles.

Crofton beam engine tower and building

Date: Thursday 19th Sept

Time: 10.00am - 12.45pm

Location:  6 Chisbury, SN8 3JA Parking details below

This walk begins in Chisbury and is along a route that group member Genevieve Mapson first led for us a couple of years ago. Our first stop on route will be to visit Chisbury’s delightful little chapel, St Martin’s, which sits overlooking the valley on the edge of the banks of the Iron age hillfort. This medieval thatched former chapel of ease has been used as a barn since the reformation and is now in the care of English Heritage. From the chapel we’ll set off to walk along lanes, tracks and field edges to enjoy open views across the countryside to the north of Chisbury.

Please bring a drink or snack for our short refreshment stop and protect yourself against ticks which may still be active in the long grass if the weather is warm. There are two stiles on this route and some long steady inclines with a couple of road sections.

Everyone is welcome but there are limited private parking spaces so please contact me if you are coming by car and I’ll confirm if there is space for your car along with directions and details of where to park.

Car share if you can and let me know in advance if you need a lift or can offer one.

Please do not park on the verges along the lanes in Chisbury. Wide agricultural vehicles frequently use the narrow lanes.
